‘My soulmate, my best friend’: Ritika Sajdeh’s heartfelt birthday wish for Rohit Sharma melts hearts

NEW DELHI: As Rohit Sharma turned 39 on Thursday, it was an emotional note from wife Ritika Sajdeh that stood out amid a flood of wishes from across the cricketing world.

Taking to Instagram, Ritika penned a heartfelt message that quickly resonated with fans. “Happy happy birthday, my Ro. I’ve spent every year saying you’re my best friend, my soulmate, and the best part of us, and this year is no different. To many more lifetimes of everything we have in this one and more,” she wrote.

The post, filled with warmth and affection, went viral within minutes, offering a glimpse into the personal side of one of India’s most celebrated cricketers.

MI’s dressing room celebration adds to the joy

The celebrations didn’t stop on social media. Mumbai Indians shared a lively video from the dressing room, capturing Rohit cutting his birthday cake surrounded by teammates. Ritika was also present, standing beside him as players smeared cake on his face in a light-hearted celebration.

The video quickly gained traction online, with fans enjoying the candid moment featuring the former Mumbai Indians skipper sharing laughs with his squad.

Tributes pour in from cricket fraternity

Birthday wishes poured in from across the cricketing fraternity. The Board of Control for Cricket in India highlighted Rohit’s remarkable career, noting his 500-plus international appearances and over 20,000 runs, along with his achievements as a World Cup-winning captain.

Former opening partner Shikhar Dhawan reminisced about their successful partnership, while Suresh Raina hailed him as “one of the finest to ever play the game.” Messages also came in from Irfan Pathan and Mohammed Shami, underlining the respect Rohit commands in the cricketing community.

A legacy that continues to grow

Widely regarded as a modern-day white-ball great, Rohit has built a stellar career since his debut in 2007. He led India to major ICC titles, including the T20 World Cup in 2024 and the Champions Trophy in 2025, cementing his legacy as a successful leader.

At the franchise level, his captaincy transformed Mumbai Indians into one of the most dominant teams in IPL history, guiding them to five titles.

Though he has stepped away from Tests and T20Is, Rohit continues to represent India in ODIs and remains an integral part of the IPL.

Dystany Spurlock Becomes First Black Woman to Race in NASCAR

Dystany Spurlock is set to become the first Black woman to race in NASCAR with her Craftsman Truck Series debut at Watkins Glen on May 8. The ARCA Menards driver will also participate in an ARCA race on the same day.

Spurlock’s NASCAR entry will be viewed as a big win for aspiring women looking to make a career in the world of motorsports and stock car racing. She joins the list of NASCAR icons such as Sara Christian, who was the first woman to race in the sport, competing in her first-ever Cup Series race in June 1949.

The 34-year-old racer is set to drive the No. 69 Foxxtecca Toyota for MBM Motorsports/Garage 66. Her racing record shows she is no stranger to motorsport.

Spurlock completed her first ARCA race at Hickory last month, where she started from eighth and finished the race in seventh place. In the following race at Rockingham, Spurlock finished in 12th place. She is also a professional motorcycle drag racer and has made multiple race starts in NHRA’s Pro Stock Motorcycle class.

Speaking about her NASCAR Truck Series debut, Spurlock said in the team’s press release:

“I’m excited for Watkins Glen. It’s been a while since I’ve raced on a road course, so I’m looking forward to getting back out there. Having the opportunity to compete in ARCA and make my debut in the truck is going to be a lot of fun. I’m focused on learning as much as I can in both the car and the truck, and hopefully we can keep this top-10 momentum going!”

Spurlock’s action-filled 2026 season is being put together by an experiential media company called Foxxtecca, documenting her journey in a docuseries, Driven by Dystany: The Road to NASCAR. The series intends to connect the automotive industry with “new and diverse audiences through storytelling, education, and live experiences.”

Foxxtecca co-founder Chris Harris said:

“Dystany’s docuseries takes viewers inside a journey most people never see—the real path to becoming a NASCAR driver, told through her lived experience of a black woman in this space. It’s not just about building her audience or authentically highlighting diversity, it’s about expanding the audience for motorsports while directly challenging and exposing the assumptions that have kept too many people on the outside looking in.”

Boston Bruins head coach Marco Sturm gave fans the injury update they were dreading before the must-win Game 6 against the Buffalo Sabres. He told Connor Ryan of the Boston Globe that second-line winger Viktor Arvidsson would be out for Game 6, barring a miracle.

"I don't think so," Sturm said when asked if Arvidsson would be available. "Maybe there's a miracle overnight, but we're planning not."

The 33-year-old scorer has been playing some of the best hockey of his life in his first season with the Bruins. He scored 25 goals and tallied 29 assists in 69 regular-season games played.

Arvidsson drew on his bountiful Stanley Cup Playoff experience while he was healthy, showing up as a difference-maker in the first few games of this series.

He scored the first goal in the Bruins Game 2 win over Buffalo, as well as finding the back of the net for the dagger shot that put Boston up 4-0 on the Sabres home ice in the third period.

The winger tallied four shots in more than 15 minutes of ice time in the narrow Game 3 defeat, and did not return to the ice after just a few shifts into the Game 4 blowout loss.

The phrasing of Sturm's update cautiously implied that the veteran was nearing a return and, if the Bruins could pull off one more win, could potentially return to the lineup soon.

Simone Biles Considering 2028 Olympics Return but Reveals What Is a ‘Huge’ Factor in Her Decision

Simone Biles revealed that she is considering a return to the Olympics.

When asked about her possible participation in the 2028 Summer Olympics held in Los Angeles, the famed gymnast told CNN Sports, “I feel like we’re still at a 50-50.”

In Biles’ Thursday, April 29, interview with the news organization, the 29-year-old athlete acknowledged that she’s “on a time crunch here now” since it’s almost halfway through 2026.

However, she wants to ensure she’s in a good place before committing to the upcoming games.

The 11-time Olympic medalist, who last competed in the 2024 games held in Paris, previously withdrew from the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo after experiencing the “twisties” (or losing her spacial awareness while in the air) and feeling the pressure that came with competing.

While she noted that she’s “going to have to make these decisions pretty quickly” when it comes to the upcoming LA28, she said, “Mental health plays a big role in it because, physically, my coaches will get me in shape.”

“I can get myself in shape,” Biles said. “We believe in that ability. We’re really thankful that I’m still healthy. Mental is a huge thing and it’s a lot of dedication on that because the road’s not easy. It’s long, but it’s still work.”

During her CNN Sports interview, Biles also discussed the “pivotal moment” the world watched her go through what she called a “mental health crisis” in Tokyo.

“I feel like it showed the realness to me because everyone thought I was a robot, she’s not real, but it’s like, down to the core, I’m just like you guys. I’m real,” she explained.

Biles said that after withdrawing from the Tokyo games, she got “the therapy that I deserved,” adding: “I’m still currently in therapy.”

“I had a lot of help and my core group was really helpful in letting me know that it’s OK people go through this and you’re just human,” she said. “Gymnasts aren’t viewed as people who have weaknesses, and that was the first time that weakness was displayed on a global stage like that.”

“Now, I look at it as being courageous and not so much a weakness,” she said.

The 2028 Summer Olympics is scheduled to take place from July 14 to 30, 2028, in Los Angeles.
