Slot's Back Five Criticized by Robinson

Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson criticized Arne Slot for using a back-five formation against PSG, calling it 'the wrong signal' that didn't play to Liverpool's strengths.

Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson says Arne Slot sent out the "wrong signal" by playing a back five in Wednesday's Champions League quarter-final first leg in Paris. This was only the second time Liverpool had fielded a back five this season, after their Carabao Cup defeat to Crystal Palace in October.

In their 2-0 defeat, PSG dominated with 74% possession and 18 shots compared to Liverpool's three. Robinson noted that by playing defensively, Liverpool was "defending their weaknesses" rather than playing to their strengths, particularly against PSG's wide threats. Liverpool also failed to have a shot on target, their first time in a Champions League match since November 2020.
