WTA Announces Prize Money Parity by 2027

The Women's Tennis Association has announced that all combined WTA 1000 tournaments will award equal prize money to men and women starting from 2027.

The WTA has declared a "major milestone" in the fight for equality as all combined WTA 1000 events, including the Italian Open, will offer equal prize money to both men and women from 2027 onward. sport-ipl.my

This move addresses historical inequality highlighted by Billie Jean King, who formed the women's professional tennis circuit after earning $600 for her 1970 Italian Open title while men's winner Ilie Nastase received $3,500.
