Chiefs News 3/4: A Trent McDuffie trade doesn’t make sense for Rams

2- His reputation as an All-Pro is overstated

McDuffie earned first-team All-Pro honors as a slot corner in 2023.

What was the first season the NFL created a designation for slot corners on the All-Pro teams? You guessed it. 2023.

He earned second-team acknowledgements as an outside corner in 2024. This smells more like an award given on reputation rather than objective production. The advanced metrics simply do not bear that this was an upper echelon season at the position.

In 2024, McDuffie was targeted 102 times and allowed 62 completions (61%) for 661 yards, six touchdowns, and a passer rating of 91.2. Hidden from the box score is the fact he was flagged for penalty 11 times. While the yardage allowed on the surface looks impressive, we cannot ignore the invisible yardage and gifted first downs associated with these coverage flags.

2026 NFL free agency hidden gems who could help the Kansas City Chiefs get back to their championship-winning ways| A to Z Sports

Dolphins RT Larry Borom

If the Chiefs decide to go out and invest in the right tackle position again after moving on from Jawaan Taylor, Borom makes a lot of sense. He played college football at Mizzou and was a teammate of Nick Bolton. He allowed just two sacks and 15 total pressures on 404 pass-blocking snaps for the Dolphins in 2025, per Pro Football Focus. He’s not the best run-blocker despite his 6-foot-5 and 333-pound frame, but pairing him with Trey Smith has a lot of appeal for combo blocks and the like.

NFL’s slate of international games is set, and only one could feature the Chiefs | The Kansas City Star

The opponents for those nine international games will be revealed this spring when the NFL releases the entire 2026 schedule.

Only one of those international games could feature the Chiefs, and it’s the one announced Tuesday.

The Chiefs play nine road games in the 2026 season, and the Falcons are the only opponent with an international contest scheduled. If the Chiefs aren’t picked to play Atlanta in Spain, then they won’t be traveling abroad.

A year ago, the Chiefs opened the season against the Chargers in Brazil.

Bills, 49ers, Chiefs could make trade with Vikings after latest rumor | The Sporting News

“Vikings are now open to trading Pro Bowl edge rusher Jonathan Greenard, per sources. They would like to keep Greenard, but they also have salary cap issues they’re working through that have led to these trade conversations,” Schefter said.

If the Vikings decide to move Greenard, the Buffalo Bills, San Francisco 49ers, and Kansas City Chiefs would be ideal trade partners.

Joey Bosa is set to hit free agency, so trading for Greenard to replace him would be a savvy move. The 28-year-old had a down year in 2025 with just three sacks, but he had 12 sacks in 2023 and 2024 and is a dynamic pass rusher when healthy.

San Francisco’s pass rush was lackluster in 2025, especially after Joey Bosa went out for the year in Week 2 due to a torn ACL. Acquiring Greenard to pair with Nick Bosa would give the 49ers an electric edge rusher duo.

Kansas City released Mike Danna last week and needs to revamp their pass rush. Greenard would be a nice fit on Steve Spagnuolo’s defense and would provide some juice to the defensive line.

3 Teams That Could Trade for Chiefs’ Jawaan Taylor | Sports Illustrated

New England Patriots

New England’s offensive line was a weakness all season and was thoroughly exposed in the playoffs, as Drake Maye was sacked 21 times across four postseason games. That set an NFL record for the most sacks taken in a single postseason.

The Patriots are another team with a healthy financial infrastructure this offseason, with $40.2 million in cap space, which could increase by releasing Stefon Diggs (saves $16.8 million). Maye had an impressive season, but he was turnover-prone behind a shaky offensive line.

Seahawks not planning to tag Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III: Sources | The Athletic

The Seattle Seahawks are not expected to use the franchise tag on running back Kenneth Walker III, meaning the reigning Super Bowl MVP will become an unrestricted free agent when the new league year opens next week, team sources confirmed to The Athletic on Tuesday.

Walker, 25, is coming off the best season of his career. He played in all 17 regular-season games for the first time and recorded 417 scrimmage yards and four touchdowns in three playoff games. He tallied 27 carries for 135 yards and added another two catches for 26 receiving yards in the Seahawks’ 29-13 win over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 60.

When asked at last week’s NFL Scouting Combine whether he’d consider using the franchise tag on Walker, Seattle general manager John Schneider brushed off the speculation.

“That’s a good try,” he said, laughing.

Sources: Cardinals tell Kyler Murray he’ll be released next week | ESPN

After months of speculation about Murray’s future with the team, Arizona informed the 2019 No. 1 draft pick that it plans to release him next Wednesday, when the new league year begins, barring a trade, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Monday.

Murray was already guaranteed $36.8 million for 2026 and would have been guaranteed another $19.5 million for 2027 if he was still on the roster March 16, which is the fifth day of the 2026 league year.

Murray preferred to be released, a source told ESPN. With him probably hitting free agency next week, Murray has two teams he would like to join, the source said, though the names of the teams were not provided.

Bears center Drew Dalman announces shocking retirement from NFL | Bears Wire

Chicago Bears center Drew Dalman has informed the team that he is retiring from the NFL at age 27, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

It’s a stunning move from the Pro Bowl center, who played a key role along one of the NFL’s best offensive lines last season. The Bears allowed a league-low 25 sacks on quarterback Caleb Williams and had the NFL’s third-best rushing attack.

Dalman spent four seasons with the Atlanta Falcons before signing a three-year, $42 million contract, with $28 million guaranteed, with the Bears last offseason. He was certainly worth the investment allowing just one sack and finishing with a top-10 pass-block win rate (96%) in 1,154 snaps.

Chiefs Draft: NFL.com mock draft aims for right tackle with trade down

Offensive line overkill

With a uniquely high pick this year, the Chiefs need to make as big an impact as possible on the team, and using the first-round selection to solidify right tackle could be unnecessary overkill.

With left tackle Josh Simmons — a former first-round pick — showing signs of becoming an elite blocker, and Kingsley Suamataia — once a second-round pick — seemingly realizing his potential at left guard, Kansas City should feel comfortable that the immediate and long-term future of the offensive line is in good shape with center Creed Humphrey and right guard Trey Smith leading the way.

It is an absolute luxury to make another big investment in the group, especially one as enormous as the top pick in a draft where the franchise is slotted in the top 10 for the first time since 2013.
