Manchester City complete deal to sign Hearts midfielder, confirms Fabrizio Romano

A new highly-rated midfield talent has been recruited by Manchester City to strengthen their options for the future, it has been revealed.

The Premier League giants have once again turned to youth as they continue building for the long term, this time securing one of Scotland’s standout teenage prospects amid widespread interest in the player’s services.

That concerns Keir McMeekin, who first emerged from the Hearts academy as a technically gifted and inventive midfielder, quickly catching the eye with his maturity on the ball and ability to dictate play well beyond his years.

Coaches in Edinburgh were impressed by his calmness in possession, with the teenager invited to train alongside the first-team squad during the 2023/24 campaign despite being just 15-years-old at the time.

Interest from south of the border has intensified over the past year, with several Premier League sides monitoring his development closely, but none more so than Manchester City – who now appear to have put forward the most compelling offer to the player and his family.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City have completed all the necessary formal steps on a deal to sign highly-rated Hearts midfielder Keir McMeekin – who has also passed a medical with the Premier League giants.

While the agreement is now in place, McMeekin has continued to focus on his progression in Scotland. Having turned 16 earlier this year, he became eligible for senior football and made his Lowland League debut for Hearts B in February – another milestone in his rapid rise.

He has also been a regular feature in Scotland’s youth international sides, finding the net in a convincing Under-17 victory earlier this year and further enhancing his growing reputation.

His performances have not gone unnoticed internationally either, with reports suggesting other national associations are keeping tabs on his eligibility situation. For now, though, his attention remains on finishing the season strongly, most recently playing an influential role in Hearts’ run to the latter stages of the Scottish Youth Cup.

As he prepares to link up with Manchester City in the summer, Keir McMeekin is expected to join the club’s renowned youth development structure at the City Football Academy, where he is likely to be placed ahead of his own age to further fast-track his own development.
